A little about me:

I’m a Cooper (I have been my whole life!) By name I mean, not by trade, although I would like to have a go at Coopering. I’m a Glazier by trade and a Maintenance Handyman by current occupation, but that’s a different story…

This blog is initially about all things ‘Cooper’. In particular, it’s about genealogy and my own exploration and discovery of my Cooper family tree & heritage. I will also be exploring other lines and other surnames of the family tree – Tickle, Basham, Hatherley, Short, Weeks, Porteous, Burder, Hallett, Robinson, Hawkins, Voyzey, Ballam, Simm, Pennington, Radford, Page, Brown and Smith among others.  I’ve encountered plenty of obstacles & brick walls on the way (with more to come, I’m sure), but I’ve also had a fair bit of success.

I hope this blog will serve several of purposes:

  1. Update my own relatives & cousins, near & far and bring them up to date with their own family tree. And to leave something for future generations to discover, read, enjoy and learn about their own family history.
  2. Help other genealogists by revealing what I do in my research. How I’ve broken down brick walls, or just little ideas for their own family tree.
  3. Maybe someone will read this and it will turn out that they are distantly related to me. It would be great to hear from you if you are.

So, I should tell you a little bit about me. I’m a Kiwi currently living in the UK. I began doing genealogy properly about 2009, but I was always interested in it before that.

I’m not all about genealogy though. I have lots of other interests: Railways (model & real), NZ dirt track speedway, radio control cars, travel, rugby / football and stained glass to name a few.
