Head Count

I have come a long way since I broke through the ‘William Cooper of Clerkenwell’ brick wall. So, before I continue I should bring you up to date with a list of all the Coopers in my tree so far, from the most common name to the least common. This list doesn’t include females who have married Coopers and thus have changed their maiden name. You will see that there are a few names that are quite clearly family names, handed down from generation to generation. This can be very helpful when trying to work out which records to follow, or it can make things a bit difficult when everyone seems to have the same name. I expect this is a tally I will be constantly updating…

Middles Names

Middle names can provide an insight into other ancestors of a particular person. I have found that a middle name may sometimes be the maiden name of that person’s mother, or a family name used on either the maternal or paternal parents side. In some cases in may provide a clue of a family line not yet discovered. For example, I have several Wallace’s which leads me to think there is a Wallace link somewhere, but it is as yet undiscovered.
